Two European stars in contention for ICC Womens Player of the Month August

After securing their respective nations progress to the Global Qualifier, Orla Prendergast (Ireland) and Iris Zwilling (Netherlands) find themselves nominated for August’s ICC Women’s Player of the Month award.

Orla Prendergast (Ireland)

The Ireland all-rounder showed her class in the T20I series against Pakistan and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, underlining her presence amongst the top 10 ICC Women’s T20 All-rounders.

Prendergast starred with both bat and ball in Ireland’s 2-1 series win against Pakistan. The 23-year-old scored two half-centuries and was the leading run-getter in the series, amassing 144 runs in three innings. She was also Ireland’s highest wicket-taker, snapping four wickets in the three matches. Her stellar performances led to her being adjudged Player of the Series.

Her impressive form continued into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifiers. Adding another 100 runs and three wickets in the qualifiers, her display on the field helped Ireland win all five games. She ended the month with an impressive 244 runs at an average of 48.80 and a strike rate of 127.08 alongside her seven wickets.

Iris Zwilling (Netherlands)

Iris Zwilling emerged as a star performer for the Netherlands as they won four out of their six matches at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier.

The all-rounder showed her superior bowling ability finishing as the joint-leading wicket-taker with 10 dismissals in six games at a remarkable economy of 4.65.

She stood out in the wins against Germany and Italy, where she finished with bowling figures of 3/14 and 3/6 respectively.

Zwilling was also handy with the bat, as she contributed 39 runs to her team’s cause, striking at a rate of 121.87 in the lower-middle order.

Muneeba Ali (Pakistan)

In addition to the two europeans, Muneeba had incredible performances in the series against Ireland. Muneeba struck 100* off 68 balls against Ireland leading them to their only victory in the series. She emerged as the second highest run-getter in the series with 132 runs in three matches with an impressive average of 66. She scored the second T20I century by a Pakistani player.
