Scotland have announced their 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup, to be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia 15 January 2026 onwards.
The side will once again be led by Forfarshire’s Thomas Knight, who continues as captain after steering Scotland to qualification in dramatic fashion.
The group features two new faces from the one that triumphed at the ICC Europe Qualifier in Dundee, with the two additions coming from the Scottish club circuit, with Clydesdale’s Shlok Thaker and Carlton’s Shreyas Tekale rewarded for their performances with call-ups to the final tournament.
The core of the qualifying squad remains intact, underlining the selectors’ faith in the group that delivered under pressure in August.
Four players have also been selected as non-travelling reserves, offering further cover and continuity should injuries intervene in the build-up to the event.
The squad is scheduled to depart for South Africa on 30 December for a training camp in Potchefstroom. From there they will travel to Zimbabwe, where they will play warm-up fixtures against India in Bulawayo and Bangladesh in Harare.
Scotland’s tournament proper begins on 15 January with a clash against hosts Zimbabwe in Harare, before further group matches against Pakistan and England.
In a statement to Cricket Scotland, Head Coach Keegan Russell said:
“It’s an exciting time for everyone, but it’s been challenging as well, it’s important to remember that we are looking after a group of teenage boys who are training like professionals ahead of this World Cup, so it’s been brilliant to see their excitement, and it’s been a long time coming for them.
“We see this tournament as a chance to go out and turn a few heads, and hopefully topple some bigger teams as well, but it’s also a chance to learn and develop against some of the best players in the world on the international stage.”
