Veteran seam-bowling all-rounder Josh Davey returns to the Scotland cricket squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series against Namibia and Canada in Toronto. The 35-year-old, who last played internationally at the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, is eager to reignite his international career after a six-year gap from ODI action.

Davey, a consistent performer for Somerset over the past decade and with a move to Leicestershire planned for 2026, he sees this series as a chance to reconnect with his roots, saying that playing for Scotland was always on the back of his mind.

Davey told Cricket Scotland, “It’s always been tricky to manage coming into the squad alongside county commitments, and it would probably not always be fair to the guys who have been there regularly who put in the hard yards to get us to tournaments. So I could always understand it from Cricket Scotland’s side and from Somerset’s point of view”.

He expressed his gratitude to Scotland for giving him the opportunity to establish himself in the sport, allowing him to build on his county career too.

Davey’s fondest memories in cricket are tied to Scotland’s jersey, particularly his time at the 2015 World Cup and he aspires to play one more before calling it a day.

He said “It’s great to experience different cultures and places to play cricket like here in Toronto.

“The 2015 World Cup, travelling around Australia and New Zealand, was just incredible. Everyone aspires to play at a World Cup, and I hope to be able to play at another one before I finally hang my boots up.”

As Scotland battles for World Cup qualification to complete his dream. Davey expects spinning pitches in the matches against Canada and Namibia which could lead to low-scoring matches and a major test for Scotland batters. His experience and skill will be vital.

After the failure to qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India. The Scotland squad is expected to have plenty of fresh energy with a potential Scotland debut on the horizon for former Kiwi batter Tom Bruce.

Scotland have their first game in Toronto on Friday against Namibia before facing Canada on Sunday.
