At just 19, Ireland spinner Freya Sargent has decided to move away from International cricket citing personal reasons.

Sargent featured in the first two ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cups in 2023 and 2025.

She made her senior international debut in 2023 and was in the set-up for two years achieving 16 ODI caps and as many T20I caps and claiming 33 wickets across the formats.

The recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup European Qualifier saw Sargent returning from an injury she suffered earlier this year.

In her last game for Ireland she claimed three wickets against Italy, including captain Chloe Piparo and star all-rounder Ilenia Sims as the Irish finished the tournament with a perfect record of winning their six matches.

Graeme West, Director of High Performance at Cricket Ireland told Cricket Ireland:

“Freya has been a valued member of the senior performance squad for the past three years, making a significant contribution both on and off the field. She has been an integral part of the team.

“Cricket Ireland will continue to support Freya during this time, the Team Management Unit are all agreed this is the best option available to Freya. Player wellbeing is paramount to us and takes precedence over everything else.”
