Ireland win by 39 runs

Harry Tector's brilliant 69* and a career-best spell from Matthew Humphreys orchestrated Ireland's 39-run victory over Bangladesh on Thursday in the opening T20I in Chattogram.

Sent in to bat after losing the toss, Ireland saw Paul Stirling (21) and Lorcan Tucker (18) fall after getting starts.

However, their innings was built on the back of an unbeaten 69 from Harry, while younger brother Tim (32) provided the spark in the Powerplay, smashing 32 off just 19 balls including six boundaries. Harry then took charge, blazing five sixes in a commanding 45-ball unbeaten innings that guided the visitors to a competitive 181-4.

Ireland began their defence brightly with Matthew Humphreys' left-arm spin wreaking havoc. He had Tanzid Hasan removed in the opening over before Mark Adair's pace reduced the hosts to a dire 5/3 by the third over.

After Tanzid, Litton Das and Parvez Hossain Emon followed suit. Saif Hassan's brief 13-ball resistance only delayed the inevitable as Humphreys returned for a devastating spell ending with figures of 4-13

While wickets tumbled on the other end, Towhid Hridoy seemed to batting on other pitch altogether, playing with aggressive intent, striking seven fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 83 off 50 balls which went in vain as the hosts fell 39 runs short.

Barry McCarthy's three-wicket haul and the disciplined bowling of Adair (2-20) sealed a professional Irish victory, showing their prowess and match-winning skills in the format.

The second T20I is scheduled for Saturday at the same venue, Ireland will look to carry the momentum into the potential series decider and aim to register their fourth victory against Ireland and secure a historic.
