The Netherlands Women won by 27 runs
Sterre Kalis' brilliant half-century and Iris Zwilling stellar bowling effort on Friday ensured Scotland do not run away with the Emerging Nations Trophy. Scotland 100% record in the competition came to a rude end as they fell 27 runs short of Netherlands' 148, denying the Sarah Bryce-led side the inaugural ICC Emerging Nations Trophy.
This was Scotland's first loss since they have arrived in Thailand, having won three matches in preceding Quad Cup before the Emerging Nations Trophy.
The toss went in Netherlands' favour with Babette de Leede opting to bat. Once again, Rachel Slater, struck in the opening over of the match knocking over Zwilling’s stumps as Netherlands' move to promote Zwilling up the order failed again.
Phebe Molkenboer anchored through the first half of the innings playing 34 balls for her 32, De Leede departed after making 15 runs off 14 balls.
Kalis continued her superb form in the tournament, unfurling some dazzling strokeplay and scoring a magnificent 55* from 44 balls.
The partnership of Kalis and Robin Rijke 27(19) drove Netherlands to a position of strength in the middle overs. The pair put up 59 runs in 40 balls elevating the team to 130-4 in 17.1 overs.
Slater (3-22 in four overs) and Priyanaz Chatterji (2-18 in three overs) struck twice in back to back overs, and were able to curb Netherlands' total to certain degree, limiting the total to 148-7 after 20 overs.
Zwilling missed out with the bat but wasted almost no time to have her say with the ball. She struck only four balls into the second innings with the crucial wicket of Darcey Carter, the top-scorer of the tournament, winning her match up against the opening batter.
Katherine Fraser 39 (32) and skipper Sarah Bryce 31 (30) began the rebuild and forged a 68-run partnership as Scotland found themselves at 72-2 at the halfway stage.
Just when Scotland were clawing back into the contest, Caroline de Lange, dismissed Fraser and Bryce in consecutive overs to derail Scotland's chase. Frederique Overdijk restricted the batters incredibly bowling her quota, conceding only 16 runs with two wickets to her name.
Zwilling returned for her second spell to put the game to bed, picking two wickets as Scotland fell 27 runs short of what could be a trophy-clinching win, the Dutch victory will be celebrated by Thailand and UAE alike. Scotland's loss throws the tournament wide open, their fixture against Thailand will be a knockout.
UAE registered an important win against Thailand earlier in the day to give themselves a crack at winning the trophy as well.
Scenarios
With four teams left in contention there's all to play on the final day of the inaugural edition of ICC Emerging Nations Trophy.
For Scotland the equation is simple, require a win to lift the trophy.
For Thailand, a win keeps them firmly in the hunt, but they will also need UAE to slip up or avoid a scenario where both UAE and Netherlands win big enough to overtake them on Net Run Rate.
UAE, having beaten Thailand earlier in the day, must beat Namibia and hope Scotland lose to set up a three- or four-way tie on points. From there, a strong NRR surge could take them to the top.
Netherlands, rejuvenated after their win over Scotland, must beat Uganda and hope both Scotland and Thailand lose. Even then, they will likely need a sizeable margin to overturn the NRR deficit in a crowded table.
