The Netherlands and Scotland women will come together at The Grange in Edinburgh for a T20 Tri-Series against Full Member nation Bangladesh using the tournament as final preparation for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England and Wales.
For the Netherlands, the stakes are significant. The Lionesses qualified for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup for the first time earlier this year, and the Edinburgh series represents the ideal testing ground with four T20Is against two competitive opponents as they head into their historic debut at the marquee tournament, where they will look to continue their brand of fearless cricket that got them here.
It will also be their first visit to Scotland in seven years.
Dutch head coach Neil MacRae welcomed the fixtures, speaking to KNCB, "We are excited about going to Scotland for the T20 Tri-Series with Scotland and Bangladesh in May. This series will provide important match practice in the build-up to the ICC T20 Women's World Cup in June."
Captain Babette de Leede echoed that enthusiasm, also noting the quality of the Netherlands' ongoing rivalry with Scotland, "We've trained really hard this winter and this Tri-series will be an exciting tournament. We have played Scotland quite a lot recently. The games are generally close and of a high standard."
De Leede also highlighted the significance of facing a Full Member opponent, "Playing against Full Member Bangladesh is also a great opportunity, especially in preparation for the T20 World Cup in England. We're looking forward to playing in Scotland again after seven years."
For Scotland, the fixtures will be the first on home soil since September 2022, a near three-year absence that belies just how far the team has travelled in the intervening period. Since that last home appearance, the Scots have qualified for two successive ICC Women's T20 World Cups.
Following the Tri-series, Scotland will also play two additional warm-up fixtures in England, details of which are to be confirmed.
Kathryn Bryce, Scotland Captain, told Cricket Scotland, “I’m incredibly excited for this opportunity for us to play in my hometown of Edinburgh. The last time we played there was in 2022, which feels so long ago, and I actually contracted Covid-19 at the time so ended up missing out on the series. This is going to be the first time that I’ve played for Scotland in Edinburgh in my career, so it’s incredibly exciting.
“There’s a monumental few months coming up, given we’re then playing a T20 World Cup just down the road in England, so with the buzz and energy around that prospect hopefully we can get lots of supporters along to watch us. It’s been so rare for Scotland to play at home, it’s not often we get to have a big crowd that’s able to see us in person and be on our side.
“Bangladesh and Netherlands are both excellent sides, so the fixtures will be amazing preparation for us leading into the main event. I can’t wait to pull on the thistle here in Scotland and run out in front of the home fans.”
“Being able to host two excellent cricketing nations in Bangladesh and Netherlands here in Scotland is amazing, and a big step forward for our sport and the team," added Craig Wallace, Scotland Head Coach.
"Given that we haven’t played at home since 2022, it’ll be probably quite an emotional occasion for everyone involved, given the hard work that the team have put in since then and the success they’ve subsequently had."
All six matches will be played in Edinburgh.
