The first Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) tour to Zimbabwe in the modern era concluded recently. The side faced Zimbabwe A in a three day fixture at Harare which marked the MCC competing in a first-class fixture after six years. The first time since the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Jasper Davidson made his first-class debut on the tour, leading the bowling attack in a match that was eventually drawn. On 10 October 2025, speaking on the experience he told Cricket Scotland

"To be able to make my first-class debut was an incredibly proud moment - it's something that most cricketers want to achieve during their career, and to be able to make a positive contribution, taking four wickets and adding 41 with the bat, was brilliant.”

The tour featured seven matches in total. In Kwekwe, the MCC drew a two-match T20 series 1–1 against the Mid West Rhinos, while the scheduled ODI was abandoned due to poor pitch conditions.

In Harare, the first-class encounter with Zimbabwe A ended in a draw, before the MCC secured a 2–1 series victory over the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy to conclude the historic tour.

For Scottish cricketers, first-class opportunities are rare, as Scotland is not currently a Test-playing nation. Davidson expressed his desire to play more red ball cricket after a successful debut stating that it's a challenge he really enjoyed and that the experience he gained during this tour was invaluable.

Scotland play their next fixture in March 2026 in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2, after missing out on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. The left-arm pacer plans to make the most of his winter, spending two weeks in Dubai before Christmas, followed by a training stint in Adelaide to further refine his skills ahead of the 2026 cricket summer.
