Sterre Kalis returns while Heather Siegers, who hit 52-ball century in August, misses out from the Netherlands' women's squad for the inaugural ICC Emerging Nations Trophy.
Netherlands women’s head coach Neil MacRae has named a 14-player squad for the tournament to be played in Thailand from 18 November to 1 December 2025.
The first edition of the ICC Emerging Nations Trophy will feature the five associate members from ODI – Netherlands, PNG, Scotland, Thailand and UAE, as well as the next three highest ranked teams in T20I that will be Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda.
Kalis returns after missing the ICC Women's T20 World Cup European Qualifiers as she was occupied with her duties for the Birmingham Phoenix, scoring 140 runs in seven innings at the The Hundred. Kalis, was on loan at Yorkshire County Cricket Club, who won the Division 2 One Day Cup, while in Divison 1 she featured in one game for Warwickshire.
While Siegers is a notable absentee from the squad, the reason of her omission is not specified in the press release on KNCB's website, but her presence at the top of the order will be a significant loss for the Dutch side. The 28-year-old smashed the seventh fastest T20I ton in Women's cricket against Germany at the ICC European Qualifiers.
Iris Zwilling will lead the bowling attack for Netherlands. She comes on the back of a successful campaign at the ICC European Qualifiers after being the joint-highest wicket taker in the tournament with 10 wickets. Zwilling was nominated for the ICC Women's Player of the Month in August after her stellar performances with the ball.
The young opener, Phebe Molkenboer, will look to build on her batting performances which saw her be the second highest scorer of the European Qualifiers with a highly impressive 226 runs at an average of 45.20
Upon the squad announcement the national women’s coach Neil MacRae told KNCB “We are grateful for the extra competitive fixtures which the ICC have provided in the Emerging Nations tournament. The players are excited about the opportunity to play T20I matches against other Associate nations in a tournament format.”
MacRae, further emphasized upon the importance of the tournament, stating that its much needed game-time for the squad as they get the opportunity to play together before the major Global Qualifier early next year in Nepal.
With four out of six wins under her belt at the European Qualifier captain Babette De Leede will be looking ahead at this competition as an opportunity to potentially win silverware and build crucial momentum heading into the Global Qualifier with their sights firmly set on the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in England.
