Nepal scripted a historic series win against the West Indies winning the three match T20I series in the United Arab Emirates 2-1, their first against a Test playing nation.
On Saturday 27 September, Nepal recorded their first victory against a full member side by beating West Indies by 19 runs.
After the thrilling first encounter, Nepal registered a massive win, playing West Indies out of the park to win by 90 runs with batter Aasif Sheikh grabbing the headlines for his 68* off 47 balls and Mohammad Aadil Alam claimed four wickets. The associate nation secured the series victory in emphatic fashion with one game to spare.
While finally in the last game of the series, the two-time T20 World Champions stood up. West Indies avoided a clean sweep by getting a consolation win in the third match, with a dominant 10 wicket win, chasing down 123 with 46 balls to spare allowing the series to end 2-1. Kushal Bhurtel was named Player of the Series for his 47 runs and five wickets across three matches.
The series victory marks a massive milestone for Associate Nations, cricket has once again shown the unpredictability of the shortest format of the sport. This series victory marks the biggest upset since Italy qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.
Nepal will now find themselves in a strong position and attempt to build on this momentum in the 2025 Men’s T20 World Cup Asia-East Asia Pacific regional finals in Oman between 8 to 17 October, where they will stake their claim for a spot in the T20 World Cup next year.
