The KNCB and Cricket Scotland were invited by the ICC to a meeting in Switzerland during the Sport Accord Conference in Lausanne with ICC Chairman Jay Shah and CEO Sanjog Gupta. The KNCB delegation comprised Chairman Guido Landheer and Interim CEO Lucas Hendrikse, while Cricket Scotland was represented by its Chair, Wilf Walsh.
The primary focus of the meeting was the joint letter submitted earlier this year by the seven High Performing (HP) Associate Members to the ICC. The letter called for greater predictability and transparency in the ICC’s policies, highlighted concerns regarding the stability of the existing financial model, and emphasised the need for improved coordination in international match scheduling.
The ICC acknowledged and expressed understanding of the concerns raised by the High Performing (HP) Associates, engaging in a constructive exchange of ideas on potential models aimed at accelerating the growth of cricket in countries such as the Netherlands and Scotland. Discussions also explored the possibility of creating a more structured framework for Associate participation in the annual T20 International calendar, enabling these nations to compete more frequently against Full Member teams.
It was decided that the High Performing Associates and the ICC will henceforth meet monthly to discuss progress and work towards the growth of global cricket.
Walsh reflected on the meetings and told Cricket Scotland:
“It was a pleasure to meet Jay Shah and Sanjog Gupta, and we really value our relationship with the ICC and are proud to play our part as a trusted partner in hosting tournaments as one of the High Performing Associate Members in men’s and women’s cricket.
“At the same time, I was candid about the funding challenges we face and the vital role the ICC can play in supporting us. I look forward to continuing those conversations and we have extended an open invitation to Jay and Sanjog to visit Scotland in 2026.”
