Jersey star Asa Tribe has received a call up to the England Lions squad for the tour to Australia in November. The Lions tour will shadow the senior Men's Ashes tour Down Under.

There was strong speculation that the 21-year-old was on the radar for England after stellar performances earlier this year.

With a stellar summer behind him Tribe was always in consideration for a call up from the English set up.

Playing for Glamargon county, Tribe also enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2025, producing high-scoring performances across formats, including a maiden first-class century (107), a career-best 206 and amassing 731 runs at an average of over 45 in the County Championship. His List A campaign was even more impressive, scoring 401 runs in just seven innings at an average above 80.

The highlight came in August when Tribe hit back-to-back unbeaten hundreds in the One-Day Cup, including a superb 122* carrying his bat against Worcestershire and 131* versus Leicestershire. These match-winning innings underlined his consistency and composure, marking him as one of Glamorgan’s rising stars. His form was rewarded with a contract at the SA20, where he was picked up by Paarl Royals.

As someone born in Jersey in 2004, Tribe automatically acquired British citizenship by birth under the British Nationality Act 1981. Jersey's status as a Crown Dependency means it has the same standing as the UK for citizenship qualification purposes. He last represented Jersey on 31 August 2025.

Should Tribe make the England senior team he would not be the first player to switch nationalities with Eoin Morgan (Ireland to England), Boyd Rankin (Ireland to England), Gavin Hamilton (England to Scotland) among many others within the UK.

It has been quite a month for Tribe, after Glamorgan agreed a deal to extend his deal for the 2026 season. This comes off the back of three centuries in one week for Glamorgan and Jersey in August as a part of his string of consistent performances which was topped off by his maiden double century. His performances saw him picked up by the Paarl Royals in the SA20.

The tour to Australia will see Tribe play alongside four English Test capped players in Rehan Ahmed, Matthew Fisher, Tom Hartley and Josh Hull which will see him gain experience among those that have played the longest format of the game at the highest level.

With Tribe a part of the 18-man squad, there is also potential for him to feature against the senior England Test team as part of the four matches England Lions are scheduled to play in on this tour.
