ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026: Five European batters to watch at global tournament

Home

With Scotland’s late inclusion at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, there will a massive European representation, with as many as four European teams outside of England taking part in the upcoming tournament.

That last-minute change has added intrigue, throwing several in-form players straight into the spotlight.
Across Ireland, the Netherlands, Scotland and Italy, a handful of batters arrive off strong recent returns.

These are five European batters to watch out for at the T20 World Cup:

Harry Tector

Harry Tector, Ireland's number three batsman, enters the T20 World Cup in excellent form, following a strong run in 2025. He was Ireland's leading run-scorer that year, amassing 240 runs at an impressive average of 48.

The 26-year-old demonstrated his consistency by converting two of his seven innings into half-centuries: 61* off 36 balls against England and 69* off 45 balls against Bangladesh. Tector further signaled his readiness for the tournament with a career-best T20 score of 96* off 56 deliveries in late January. His performance will be crucial to Ireland's success in the upcoming event.

Paul Stirling

Paul Stirling, a true legend of the format, is poised to captain Ireland for the second consecutive T20 World Cup. He enters the tournament as the fourth highest run-scorer in T20I history, boasting 3888 runs. With a world-record 161* T20I appearances under his belt, he will enter the tournament as the most capped Men’s player in the format.

In 2025, Stirling smashed 143 runs at just over 20 in seven innings, striking at 143 and when he turned out for Northern Knights in the Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Trophy, Stirling scored 236 runs at 26.22, striking at nearly 170. The Irish skipper will be eager to convert his typically promising starts into substantial, match-winning innings, but big tournaments like the T20 World Cup could just be the perfect occasion for Stirling to leave a lasting impression on the global stage.

  1. Max O’Dowd

Despite the Netherlands' limited international cricket over the winter, Max O'Dowd enjoyed an excellent 2025. He was instrumental in securing the team's spot in the T20 World Cup 2026, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer in the European Qualifiers. Throughout 2025, O'Dowd amassed 275 runs across nine innings, maintaining an average of close to 40 and hitting two half-centuries. His peak performance was an unbeaten 92 against Guernsey during the qualifying tournament.

  1. Tom Bruce

Tom Bruce’s return to Scotland has been a major shot in the arm for Scotland. Bruce returned into the side back in August when there was no World Cup in their plans, however with a turn of events only as recent as last week, Scotland are ready to take part in the marquee tournament. Bruce was in brilliant form in the 2024-25 New Zealand Super Smash for Central Districts, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer, amassing 339 runs at an average of 56.50 and a strike rate of 157.67, a very strong performance in a top domestic T20 league. Bruce smashed his career-best score of 95 from 50 balls in his last appearance in the league showing that the best is yet to come.

  1. Wayne Madsen

The newly appointed captain of Italy looks to be in touch as he scored a T20I career-best of  61* and then a solid 39 in his last two T20Is against Ireland in January 2026. Madsen was also a part of the Italian team that defeated Ireland to win their first match against a full member side. Madsen brings the experience of 219 T20 matches with him, having played a stellar role in Derbyshire’s growth. Madsen racked up 431 runs in the 2025 edition of the T20 Blast including three half centuries.
