Clydesdale cricket team was a happy bunch on Sunday (August 24) after winning the Men's Scottish Cup for the first time since 2016 with a 20-run win over defending champions Heriot's. Clydesdale were put to bat first after Heriot's won the toss and were bundled for 104 in 31.5 overs.

Clydesdale lost their first two wickets with just 11 runs on the board as opener Sheryar Awan was caught at slip off Adrian Neill's bowling. Two balls later Neill struck again as he bowled Craig Young. Scottish captain Richie Berrington was Heriot's next scalp as he was caught off Charlie Cassell's bowling. Clydesdale score at that point was 15/3. Spinners James Dickinson (4-20) and Mark Watt (3-38) proved to be double trouble as they cleaned up the remaining Clydesdale batters with no one scoring more than 25 runs.

What looked like a comfortable chase for Heriot's soon became an uphill task. Adil Ghaffar bowled Mark Watt for a duck inside the opening over. Lloyd Brown (22) and Dougie Voas (10) added 34 runs for the second wicket before Ravi Alavala took out Voas and Brown fell to Ghaffar.

35-1 quickly became 35-3 and then 40-5 as Matthew Cross and Josh Elliott were sent back to the pavilion in quick succession. Ghaffar (3-28) and Alavala (3-27) ended up sharing the first six wickets between them with Isaac Rahman (4-24) cleaning up the tail-enders.

Clydesdale captain Kallum Dhami delivered the winning moment as he took the catch to dismiss Neill leaving Heriot's at 84 all out in 23 overs.

Both teams had gone into the final hoping for a double after winning the respective regional leagues a day before. While Clydesdale are the Western District Cricket Union champions, Heriot's won the Eastern Premier League. It would have been a remarkable double for Heriot's had they won after winning both the regional and Scottish Cup last year.

Clydesdale's win meant eight years of Eastern dominance in the Scottish Cup had ended, according to Cricket Scotland.
