The inaugural edition of the ICC Emerging Nations trophy is almost upon us, the tournament pits the eight best associate teams against each other and is a pivotal step towards the development of women's cricket and expansion of cricket in the world.
The recently concluded ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 saw record breaking numbers which saw audiences captivated all around the world, with over 500 million viewers across the planet, breaking barriers and shattering records.
Building on the success of the marquee event, this tournament aims to invest in creating a sustainable future for women's associate cricket. In a media release the Chief Executive of the ICC said:
“It is the ICC and the Chair’s vision to sustainably expand Cricket’s footprint across the world and grow the women’s game. Providing elite athletes from emerging nations more opportunities to play at the highest level is aimed at fast-tracking their development and improving the competitiveness of their teams. It also drives the visibility of the sport in participant nations, serving as a driver of girls’ involvement in the sport and inspires women from other nations to stay committed to the development pathways. ”
Dates and Venue
The tournament is set to be played between 20 November and 30 November 2025 in Thailand with matches split between the Terdthai Cricket Ground and Asian Institute of Technology Ground, both venues are in Bangkok.
Where to watch Emerging Nations Trophy
The ICC Emerging Nations Trophy will be available to watch on ICC.TV around the globe. In India the matches will be streamed on Fancode. The games will be streamed at two slots of 2:30 AM and 6:45 AM GMT
Participating Nations
In the first edition, the tournament brings together eight of the best associate teams, the five teams with Women's ODI status Netherlands, PNG, Scotland, Thailand and UAE will be joined by the next three highest ranked T20I teams which were Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda on the 1 May 2025 cut-off date.\\\
In the lead-up to the Emerging Nations Trophy, Scotland, Thailand, Namibia and Papua New Guinea contested in a quadrangular series in Bangkok which saw Scotland triumph.
Format
The tournament will consist of 28 matches with each of the eight teams playing seven matches each in a round-robin league phase. All games will be in the T20 format.
