Day 4 Stumps: Ireland need 333 to win

Bangladesh - 476 all out and 297-4d 69 Overs

(Mominul Haque 87 Shadman Islam 78; Gavin Hoey 2-84)

Ireland - 265 all out and 158-5

(Harry Tector 50 Curtis Campher 34*; Taijul Islam 3-55)

Ireland held firm through the second and third sessions, thanks to a composed half-century from Harry Tector, pushing the second Test into Day 5.

Records continued to tumble in the series, with Taijul Islam overtaking Shakib Al Hasan to become Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in Test history.

The day began with Bangladesh scoring quickly, posting 297/4 in 69 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim showcased his class once again, backing up his first-innings century with an unbeaten 53*. The declaration came after Mominul Haque was dismissed for 87, with Gavin Hoey claiming his fourth wicket of the match, setting Ireland a monumental target of 509 runs.

Bangladesh struck early with spin, removing both openers captain Andy Balbirnie (13) and Paul Stirling (9), courtesy of Taijul, leaving Ireland two down inside eight overs.

Just as Bangladesh looked poised to finish the job, Tector played a gritty 50 before toe-ending a drive to Mushfiqur, who took a brilliant diving catch. His dismissal shifted momentum once more.

Curtis Campher battled on with an unbeaten 34 as Ireland closed the day on 176/6, still needing 333 runs with four wickets in hand.

With clear skies expected in Dhaka tomorrow, Ireland will need nothing short of a miracle to rewrite what appears to be an inevitable result.
