Bangladesh win by 8 wickets
It’s rare to see a T20I unfold on a weekday afternoon, but Tanzid Hasan ensured this one was memorable. His unbeaten 55 and a remarkable run of five consecutive catches headlined a commanding display from Bangladesh, who cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Ireland to seal the series 2–1 on home soil.
With a historic series win on the line, the visitors won the toss and opted to bat first. Bangladesh opted to start with spin and were instantly punished by skipper Paul Stirling, who got Ireland off to a brilliant start scoring 13 from the first over.
The openers set the tone with a bright start, and Tim Tector kept the momentum going with a lively 17 off 10, striking consecutive fours and a six before falling to the final delivery of the third over.
In the last over of the powerplay Mustafizur Rahman cleaned up Harry Tector, conceding only one run and leaving Ireland at 51-2 after the powerplay.
Things went from bad to worse for Ireland as Lorcan Tucker got trapped in front of the stumps, after initially being adjudged not out the decision was overturned sending Tucker back with one run on the board.
Curtis Campher’s 9 off 16 was a brief attempt to steady the innings before he was bowled by Rishad Hossain. The spinner struck again soon after, claiming the key wicket of Paul Stirling, who had earlier survived a chance on 15. Stirling made the most of the reprieve, compiling a brisk 38 off 27 before finding the fielder at deep backward square leg.
Tanzid had a field day, with the next five wickets all falling into his hands, equalling the record of most catches taken by an outfielder in T20Is, despite George Dockrell's valuable resistance with 19 from 23 balls, Ireland were bundled out for 117.
The chase was a breeze for Bangladesh, despite losing a couple of wickets including captain Litton Das who was dismissed for a measly seven runs by Harry.
The total on the board just was not enough as Tanzid scored an unbeaten 55* (36) complimented by Parvez Hossain Emon 33* (26) as they chased down the total in 13.4 Overs sealing the series victory for the hosts.
