The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the European qualification pathway for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028, confirming that 30 European nations will compete in three Sub-Regional Qualifier events to be staged across Cyprus, Denmark, and Finland in 2026.
The announcement marks a major milestone in cricket’s growing footprint across Europe, offering both emerging and established nations a vital opportunity to edge closer to a spot on the global stage.
Cyprus will host its first-ever ICC T20 World Cup pathway event when it stages Qualifier A from 16 - 23 May 2026. The event will welcome Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Guernsey, Jersey, Malta, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Denmark will stage Qualifier B from 8 - 15 July 2026, hosting its first senior-level ICC event after successful delivery of an U19 Europe Qualifier in 2024. Competing teams will include Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Gibraltar, Hungary, Norway, Romania, Scotland, Serbia, and Türkiye.
Finland will host Bulgaria, Czechia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Isle of Man, Israel, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Spain in Qualifier C from 14 - 21 August 2026 building on its strong record of hosting two ICC events in 2022.
These three events will not only bring international T20 cricket to new audiences but also showcase each host nation’s growing commitment to developing the game. The top-performing sides from each event will advance to the next phase of the European qualification pathway.
Ireland, Italy, and the Netherlands will join the qualification process at a later stage, owing to their participation in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup set to be held in India and Sri Lanka February onwards.
Detailed fixtures, venues, and match timings will be announced following the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup in March next year.
Commenting on the announcement, Andy Wright, ICC’s Regional Development Manager – Europe told ICC: “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 pathway will showcase the tremendous depth and development of cricket across Europe.
“We are delighted to partner with Cyprus, Denmark and Finland as hosts—three nations that have demonstrated strong commitment to growing the game. These events will deliver high-quality cricket and provide players with invaluable international experience.”
