With ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2030 to be hosted in the UK, Ireland is building a new cricket stadium with state-of-the-art facility.

Ireland was granted approval for the final planning of the first phase of the National Cricket Centre on the Sport Ireland campus, which is located in Blanchardstown, Dublin. 

Cricket Ireland is undergoing a major transitional period with Sarah Keane set to take over as CEO in March 2026 as well, this is another major step towards the development of Irish cricket in the short term and long term future. 

Chair of Cricket Ireland Brian MacNeice told Cricket Ireland:

“We are delighted that planning permission has been granted. The stadium and training facility is crucial to the long-term success and sustainability of Irish cricket and will position us well as we head towards the 2030 T20 World Cup that we will be co-hosting.”

The approval allows work to proceed on developing the main field of play, the areas for players and match officials, 4240 seats for spectators and supporting infrastructure and parking. 

The approval also includes a high-performance centre which is a facility dedicated to elite-level athlete development, offering specialized resources for physical conditioning, skill refinement, and performance analysis which will go a long way in maximising the effectiveness of training and helping Ireland compete with other full member nations.

The project at the Sport Ireland will also allow aspiring athletes and fans alike to witness International cricket at the facility and drive participation in the sport, which will help cricket grow even more in Ireland

MacNeice spoke on the importance of the milestone adding:

“Between the stadium, the 2030 T20 World Cup and other significant improvements underway across Ireland, we are in a real phase of growth for the sport locally, and improvement in our competitiveness on the world stage. Announcements like today’s are important milestones that will help us achieve our potential.”
