Barbados Royals clinched a thriller on Wednesday securing a historic third straight Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) title. Royals edged out Guyana Amazon Warriors with three wickets and two balls to spare, completing a perfect season winning all five games in the tournament.
Warriors batted first and ended with 136-3 after 20 overs. The Royals were not in for an easy chase as the Warriors kept the pressure on taking wickets at consistent intervalsl, with the game in the balance Aaliyah Alleyne scored a match-winning 19 from 9 balls taking the Royals to victory with 137-7 in 19.4 overs.
Ireland’s Amy Hunter arrived at the tournament on the back of winning six consecutive wins at the European Qualifiers in Rotterdam. Hunter played an instrumental role as Ireland secured their berth to the Global Qualifiers for the Women's T20 World Cup 2026.
The 19-year-old continued her rich vein of form from Rotterdam to the Caribbean and finished one of the stellar players of the tournament. The opener finished as second-highest run scorer of the tournament amassing an impressive 156 runs at an average of 31.20 and strike rate of 104.69 SR. She scored – 3, 34, 27, 63 and 29 – across her 5 innings.
She was immense at the top of the order providing vital starts for her team as Guyana Amazon Warriors progressed to their second finals of WCPL.
In addition to her impressive season with the bat she finished with the most dismissals in the tournament. Hunter was the only wicket-keeper to get dismissals via stumping, doing so on four occasions, highlighting her quick reflexes behind the stumps, with one catch to her name taking her total involvement to five wickets.
