International European cricket may be on the brink of its most significant structural leap yet.

In a development that could reshape the continental landscape, Cricket Ireland is pushing forward with plans to launch a Euro Nations Cup as early as 2027 as per Cricket Ireland chair, Brian MacNeice.

Cricket Ireland confirmed discussions on their website when announcing the International fixtures for the 2026 Summer, further stating that the tournament will likely be held annually in the T20 format with competitions for both men and women running parallel to each other.

With similar tournaments existing in other regions such as the North American T20 Cup and the Asia Cup it is a long-overdue consolidation of identity, opportunity and ambition for the region cricket calls home.

A surge in growth of cricket in Europe with the likes of teams like Italy, playing in their first-ever T20 World Cup earlier this year, and upcoming sides like Spain, Isle of Man, Jersey among others, the interest around the competition provides more opportunities for the teams in the continent.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, MacNeice confirmed that more details are expected in the coming months as key stakeholders are holding positive discussions and we can expect updates about the structure of the tournament and the window the potential tournament can slot into with the year 2027 is already congested with the scheduled qualifying rounds for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2027 and the Olympics, in addition to the ETPL and other domestic tournaments slated for that period.

The proposed Euro Nations Cup is expected to feature leading European sides that featured in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup such as England, Cricket Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, and the Italian cricket team, however there is no confirmed list of participating teams.

In addition to that, on Friday 20 March, Cricket Ireland announced long-term deals with the Emirates Cricket Board and the Cricket Association of Nepal to hold white ball series against the associate nations as cricket continues to grow across the globe.

The deal also includes the signing of one Irish player in every ILT20 franchise side from the 2026/2027 season.
