A new era begins: Owen Dawkins appointed Scotland mens team head coach

Cricket Scotland has appointed Owen Dawkin as the head coach of the Men's cricket team while Gordon Drummond takes charge as the Scotland Assistant Coach.

Scotland narrowly missed out on qualifying for the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2026, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka, with Italy and Netherlands progressing through the European Qualifiers.

The appointment of Dawkins marks a timely development as Scotland enter an important new cricketing cycle. With several major tournaments on the horizon, the team will be looking to use this transition to strengthen their foundations, refine their approach, and build momentum for future qualification campaigns.

"I think now is just the right opportunity for where the team is and where I am, that I really feel I can make an impact," Dawkins said in an interview with Cricket Scotland.

Owen Dawkins brings a wealth of experience to the role. He currently serves as Batting Coach and Assistant Coach at Gloucestershire CCC, in addition to leading the county’s Second XI.

His connection with Scottish cricket runs deep. Since 2018, Dawkins has contributed across multiple areas as a consultant coach with Cricket Scotland.

“Over the past eight years, I’ve had the privilege of working with Scotland in a variety of roles – supporting the men’s first team, the A team, the academy, and the Under-19s across the last three World Cup cycles, as well as contributing to the coach education programme. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of where we currently stand and how, as a squad, we can continue to move forward," Dawkins said.

He has also worked with Auckland Cricket and taken on the role of Head Coach for the MCC on several overseas tours, most recently guiding their squad during the October visit to Zimbabwe.
